VW Amarok Now Available With Petrol Engine

The Amarok Double Cab is now available with a 2.0 TSI petrol engine. The introduction of a 2.0 TSI engine completes the Double Cab model line-up that includes 2.0 TDI (90 kW) and 2.0 BiTDI (120 kW) derivatives. All the engines are mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission is planned for introduction in the third quarter of 2012.

The Volkswagen Amarok was launched in South Africa in September last year and quickly earned itself a 15.5 percent share of our local Double Cab bakkie market, thanks to its numerous active and passive safety systems, and a high level of comfort and specification.

The latest variant employs a four-cylinder, 16-valve, turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, which produces maximum power of 118 kW between 3 800 r/min and 5 500 r/min. Maximum torque is 300 Nm, available from 1 600 r/min to 3 750 r/min. The engine features variable valve timing, coupled with a constantly variable vane turbocharger, as well as a direct injection fuel system (operating at 190 bar). Together with these technologies, the engine is capable of a claimed 9.6 L/100km with CO2 emissions of 228 g/km. Volkswagen says their petrol engine offers enough power to launch the Amarok to 100 km/h from standstill in under 10 seconds and will haul the vehicle to a top speed of 180 km/h.

The Amarok 2.0 TSI is available exclusively in Trendline trim, with a 4×2 drivetrain. The 2.0 TSI retails for R301 400 including VAT, as well as a 3-year/100 000 km manufacturer warranty and 5-year/90 000 km service plan.
