Porsche will reportedly attach a third turbocharger onto its new 911 Turbo, replacing the twin-turbo arrangement of the current model. BMW recently made headlines when it debuted a similar system for its new triple-turbo diesel engine, powering the brand’s new M Performance diesel models.
According to Britain’s Autocar magazine, the new system will utilise the current model’s existing 3.8-litre flat-six, with the extra turbo placed closer to the engine for better low-end response. Along with delivering more linear acceleration, the additional tubocharger and revisions to the engine will reportedly boost output beyond 390 kW – compared to 368 kW for the current model. The new system will likely also lead to improved fuel consumption figures, helped by Porsche’s new seven-speed manual transmission.
