The third generation of the Audi RS4 Avant has made its public debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Audi say there are no plans for a sedan version of the RS4.
The Audi RS4′s main attraction is the 4.2-litre, naturally aspirated, V8 engine – the same as that of the RS5 coupe. The RS4 has 331 kW and 430 Nm of torque on tap, making it capable of a 0 – 100 km/h sprint of 4.7 seconds and electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (280 km/h with the limiter removed). Audi say the engine is capable of 11 L/100km, but we doubt owners will see that figure on the on-board computer very often.
As with all RS4s before it, Quattro permanent all-wheel drive provides plenty of grip. Audi’s latest crown-gear center differential works in conjunction with a torque vectoring system, which is capable of transferring power between the axles as well as individual wheels.
