Kia’s Sorento SUV, among the first to appear with the Korean company’s now-defining headlight and grille design when launched in 2009, has been given its first international update.
The 2013 Sorento features a new Cerato Koup-inspired front bumper, giving the SUV a taller and more imposing appearance. The updated Sorento also features a toned-down black-and-chrome grille, a new foglight design, body colour accents and 17-inch alloy wheels. The range-topping model offers buyers a chromed exhaust tip, LED tail lights and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Little has changed in the cabin, although various feature and trim updates for each variant include standard leather upholstery, a new full-colour audio display in the centre stack (replacing the monochrome red of the previous model) and dual-zone climate control. New optional extras include an UVO infotainment system and a Convenience Plus Package with an eight-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a first aid kit.
Engine options in the U.S. remain unchanged as follows: A 2.4-litre MPI four-cylinder with 131 kW and 229 Nm of torque; A 2.4-litre GDI four-cylinder with 142 kW and 245 Nm of torque; A 3.5-litre V6 with 206 kW and 336 Nm of torque. All engines a mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front wheel drive is standard, but an all-wheel drive system is optional.
The updated Kia Sorento is expected to arrive in South Africa towards the end of the year, (looking slightly different to the US market unit shown here), at which time pricing and specifications will be announced.
