While many of you may have been at the beach on January 2nd of this year, we were making our way to New Delhi for the unveiling of the Ford EcoSport compact-SUV concept. Details were scarce to say the least back, then , save for news of the 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine. This week, however, Ford has unveiled the production version of the EcoSport at the Beijing Motor Show.
The Ford EcoSport is virtually identical to its showcar predecessor, with the more conventional headlight internals and black bumpers the only stand-out differences. The range-topping EcoSport Titanium model was on show in Beijing, which boasts 16-inch alloy wheels, a chrome grille and standard tech such as the Ford SYNC infotainment system with voice control.
Power for the EcoSport will be provided by Ford’s new turbocharged 1.0-litre 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine, which produces 89 kW and 170 Nm of torque. While a 55 kW 1.5-litre diesel and 80 kW 1.5-litre petrol engine are also available, Ford South Africa haven’t confirmed which units will make it to SA, or when we can expect the Nissan Juke competitor for that matter.
We’ll bring you more details as they become available.
