In its already limited run (just 333 units worldwide), the Audi R8 GT Coupé with its 5.2-litre FSI V10 and Quattro all-wheel drive is already a very rare and powerful beast. The power is increased to 412 kW and the weight is reduced by 100 kg to 1 525 kg over a standard R8. This gives the Audi R8 GT a top speed of 320 km/h and a 0 – 100 km/h sprint time of 3.6 seconds.
For some in the Middle East this is not enough though. Welcome to the twin-turbo Audi R8 GT prepared by Underground Racing. Yes, it’s heading to a customer in the United Arab Emirates and yes, all that carbuncled, modified, engine stuff that’s attached itself to the backend looks quite grotesque when left exposed, but the extra performance it creates is pretty awesome.
The headlines are 1 000 on-the-road horsepower (745 kW) or 1 250 horsepower (932 kW) if Mr. UAE uses racing fuel. It is a stage 3 twin-turbo build, so the entire engine had to be disassembled over eight weeks before parts were fitted and everything was bolted back together again. This car features a MoTeC boost-by-gear system. No performance figures are available.
This is not dissimilar to builds done on various V10 Lamborghini Gallardos and prices from Underground Racing in the US are said to be $94 000, or around R 840 000 in a direct currency conversion. Is it worth it for a one of a kind monster Audi R8 GT?
