The 2013 Honda CR-Z has only just been launched at the Paris Motor Show, but it seems Mugen were ready and waiting to take their concept to reality on the back of the updated hybrid coupé.
Although the 2013 CR-Z benefits from just a few tweaks, the updated ECU and variable valve timing system amount to increases of 5 kW for both the 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor, with total power output now at 100 kW and torque at 190 Nm.
Thankfully Mugen have finally done what all Type-R fan boys and performance enthusiasts have been waiting for, they’ve given it a substantial power increase. The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine now benefits from the aid of a supercharger, which boosts power to 115 kW and 185 Nm of torque. Mugen have left the 2013 CR-Z’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system unchanged, with the aforementioned 15 kW and 80 Nm of torque. In performance terms, the Mugen CR-Z now launches from 0 – 100 km/h in a far more respectable 6.1 seconds, compared to the standard car’s 10 seconds.
Separating the Mugen CR-Z from the standard car is a substantial aerodynamics package. The tuning company has fitted a new front spoiler, a revised grille and modified side skirts. There’s also a rear diffuser, an adjustable wing and a sports exhaust system. Other highlights include an adjustable suspension, high-performance brakes, 17-inch alloy wheels with Dunlop Direzza Z II tyres and a special coat of azure blue metallic.
Just 300 units will be built for the Japanese domestic market with pricing expected to start at ¥4.49 million (including a 5% consumption tax).
