Volkswagen has announced a number of updates for the 2013 Amarok, which compliment the more powerful BiTDI engine introduced in July this year.
As refresher, the 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine initially produced 120 kW and 400 Nm of torque when the Amarok was introduced in 2010. Thanks to adjustments to engine and turbo mapping, the power was boosted by 12 kW to 132 kW. Along with the slight increase in power, acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h has improved by 0.5 seconds to 10.3 seconds for the 4×2 and 10.6 seconds for the 4Motion models.
For 2013, the 2.0 BiTDI engine gains an extra 20 Nm of torque, for a total of 420 Nm, and can be paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the 2013 Volkswagen Amarok gains BlueMotion Technology that includes low rolling resistance tyres, engine stop/start technology and regenerative braking, all for improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.
Besides the upgraded engine and transmission, the 2013 Amarok will also be available with Bluetooth connectivity, front and rear parking sensors, heated washer jets, tachograph preparation, cornering fog lights and 19-inch alloy wheels.
