Porsche confirmed last week that it will be bringing the new Cayman to the L.A. Auto Show at the end of the month. Porsche haven’t released any details of car, but the Boxster’s fixed-roof sibling is likely to share the drop-top’s engine line-up.
In the run up to the show, however, one eagle-eyed passerby spotted the new Cayman lying in wait at an airport warehouse in Atlanta, where Porsche’s US operations are based. Apart from the stickers over the head and tail lights, we can see the car’s lines for the first time. The roof is the obvious point of difference between the Cayman and the new Boxster, with the look of the lower half otherwise unchanged. Otherwise, all the elements that have made the new Boxster such a popular design success are present, including the rear lip spoiler that flows into the taillights.
As with the Boxster, expect power to come from a choice of 2.7- and 3.4-litre flat-six engines with 195 kW and 232 kW in the Cayman and Cayman S respectively. A six-speed manual transmission should be standard with Porsche’s seven-speed, dual-clutch PDK serving as the optional gearbox.
More details and pricing in various markets is expected in the coming weeks.
