Expected to debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January, the BMW 4 Series Coupe concept is looking very close to production-ready if you ask us.
Based on the platform of the 3 Series F30 sedan, the 4 Series does away with two doors in favour of a far sportier and aggressive appearance, whilst still retaining elegant appeal. The front fascia is characterised by narrower LED headlights that meet with the traditional kidney grille that lies on top of an aggressive bumper. The side profile features the same ‘reversed number 7′ style vent that we’ve seen on the 3 Series Gran Turismo earlier this week, so this looks set to be a new design theme for future BMWs. The roofline slopes elegantly toward the rear, where it flows into the boot line and the concept rolls on a set of 20-inch wheels. The rear of the 4 Series concept itself, is defined by sweeping lines within the LED tail-lights, while the stand-out feature has got to be the satin-finish aluminum insert that surrounds and connects the two exhaust pipes.
The interior has its instruments and controls angled toward the driver as per BMW’s ethos. The chocolate-brown colour scheme and material designs are the work of BMW Individual, which featuring among others, Alcantara headliner, chestnut wood trim and even leather-lined cup holders.
Under the bonnet, we expect the 4 Series to be powered by the same choice of engines as found in the 3 Series. This means a 428i with 180 kW and 350 Nm of torque and a 435i with 225 kW and 400 Nm of torque. The same goes for the transmission, with either a 6-speed manual as standard or a 8-speed automatic as an option.
The new 4 Series range will also be expanded to include a convertible, as well as the obligatory ‘M’ version.
