Hot on the heels of the launch of the new Focus ST, Ford says its smaller sibling, the new Fiesta ST, is destined to hit local shores in the first half of 2013.
The new Fiesta ST was engineered using Ford’s global performance car DNA and developed by Ford Team RS, the European arm of the company’s Global Performance Vehicles group. The new Fiesta ST is said to deliver significant ride-and-handling improvements through its specially tuned chassis, which is 15 mm lower than the standard Fiesta, as well as Ford’s enhanced Torque Vectoring Control system and three-way Electronic Stability Control.
The Fiesta ST, with its 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine, will deliver 132 kW of power and 240 Nm of torque. The ST is capable of racing from 0 – 100 km/h in less than seven seconds before reaching a top speed of 220 km/h.
The Fiesta ST has been put to the test with over 5 000 km of driving on Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife under its belt. The new Fiesta ST will feature standard Recaro sports seats and be equipped with MyKey and SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity.
“We’re delighted to be bringing a new generation Fiesta ST to South African performance enthusiasts in 2013,” said Ford Marketing Manager Gavin Golightly. “With the Fiesta ST joining the new Focus ST, we will again be able to deliver a choice of affordable small performance cars that are designed to deliver a unique blend of stand-out styling and dynamic on-road performance with true practicality for everyday use.”
We say, bring it on, we’ve been waiting eagerly for this hot to trot Ford Fiesta ST.
