MG6 BTCC Special Edition

MG6 BTCC Edition

You may or may not know this about us, but here at SA Car Fan we actually like the MG6 Turbo quite a lot. Listen, it’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but at least MG has given it the goods mostly where it counts. Like a smooth, tidy turbocharged engine and good rear suspension. It’s no wonder then that when it came time to race the MG6 in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), the race engineers didn’t have much trouble getting it into shape. At the hands of Jason Plato the MG6 hasn’t won the BTCC yet, but it has put in plenty of memorable performances so far.

The MG brand has decided to create a new, special edition of its mid-size, MG6 model to mark its involvement in BTCC. There are no mechanical upgrades to the MG6 BTCC Edition, which is based on the regular MG6 and is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 118 kW; enough for a 0 – 100 km/h sprint time of 8.4 seconds.

What the BTCC Edition package does bring to the MG6 however, is some cosmetic and equipment features. Exterior-wise these include a matte-black roof and 18-inch alloy wheels with black gloss sills. True to the BTCC sponsorship, they are shod with Dunlop tyres and you get the choice of Arctic White or Union Blue paint finishes. In addition to black gloss side skirts, door mirror covers, lower front air dam, rear bumper and rear spoiler, the grille sports a BTCC badge, while MG KX Momentum Racing team colour decals are used on the bonnet extension and front doors.

Standard interior equipment includes a navigation system, front sport seats, electronic hill-hold function, tyre monitoring system, rear parking sensors, fog lights, cruise control and a leather covered multi-function steering wheel. UK buyers are even being offered VIP tickets to rounds of the 2013 BTCC if they order before December 31st, which is a nice touch.
