The Toyota 86 is powered by a 2.0-litre boxer engine that produces a modest 147 kW and 205 Nm of torque. It’s a car that’s been begging for more power since before it even went on sale and tuners are scrambling to offer power upgrades to 86 owners. Adding a turbo- or supercharger is the quickest way to achieve substantial power gains and one company having done just that is VCMC based in Canada. They invited Drive’s Matt Farah to take their Scion FR-S (as near as makes no difference, a North American market Toyota 86) for a couple of laps of the Chuckwalla Raceway in California, to sample the fruits of their labour.
