Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Production Begins

Lamborghini have begun production of the outlandish, stunning, Sesto Elemento supercar that stole the show at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The first details about the new raging bull are now coming to light and Lamborghini say the production version Sesto Elemento will remain virtually identical to the acclaimed concept.

The car will be produced at the company’s special operations centre, using the same methods as Lamborghini do to make all their bespoke prototypes. Just like the Lamborghini Reventon and Reventon Roadster the Sesto Elemento will be turned from concept car into a production car, but only in limited numbers.

The jagged-angled, hi-tech interior will remain the same too, meaning the shape and position of the seat will be exactly customised to the specifications of each of the 20 lucky owners. The concept car’s seats are actually built as part of the carbon fibre monocoque structure and the cushioning on them is simply added afterwards.

The production version will undergo modifications to increase stiffness and improve overall safety of the structure, which will feature two individual crash structures (front and rear) with quick-release points to allow access during maintenance.

Underneath the sculpted carbon fibre, the rare supercar will get the same drivetrain as the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. That means it’ll have a 5.2-litre V10 engine with 419 kW and 540 Nm of torque being shoved to all four wheels through the 6-speed E-gear transmission.

The big shouting point of the Sesto Elemento is of course its lightweight carbon fibre construction that will result in a curb weight of only 1 000 kg. This makes it the lightest Lamborghini ever and should give the supercar some ballistic performance: 0 to 100 km/h in only 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h or more.

It is estimated the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento will cost approximately €2 million, or about R23 million. Lamborghini say all 20 cars have already been reserved. Now that the brand is celebrating its 50th birthday, the Sesto Elemento seems to be well timed to coincide with the celebrations.
