Lamborghini has celebrated its 50th birthday with a model called Veneno at the Geneva Motor Show. Named after yet another fighting bull, the Veneno is an expression of Sant’Agata’s expertise in the aerodynamic engineering, composite materials and truly crazy styling.
Key styling highlights include Y-shaped headlights, scissor doors and enormous intakes. There’s also a massive diffuser, an adjustable rear wing and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. Other notable features include exclusive alloy wheels and a ventilated engine cover with a large central fin that improves stability and provides additional downforce.
The Lamborghini Veneno shares components like its scissor doors with the Aventador. The supercar’s chassis and body are both made out of carbon fiber, and its front and rear sub-frames are fashioned out of aluminium. The central-locking alloy wheels feature an innovative turbine-like carbon fibre vane that helps cool the brakes, the wheels are also specially wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres.
The bucket seats are made out of a forged composite while the dashboard, part of the seats and the headliner are upholstered with ‘CarbonSkin’, a woven carbon fibre which feels soft to the touch. Both are patented by Lamborghini.
The Lamborghini Veneno gets the mid-mounted Aventador-sourced 6.5-litre V12 engine, except it has been tuned to create 563 kW and is linked to a fast-shifting seven-speed ISR manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels. This enables the 1,450 kg supercar to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds before hitting a top speed that is over 350 km/h.
Lamborghini says each one costs €3-million (R39-million). Only three examples will be built for customers later this year and they will be finished in green, white and red, respectively, in homage to the Italian flag.
