This isn’t an actual Peugeot RCZ Cabriolet, this is Austrian manufacturer Magna Steyr’s interpretation of what a convertible RCZ would look like. Magna Steyr is one of the world’s largest contract manufacturers who have built everything from Aston Martins, Jeeps, Minis, to sporty Mercedes-Benz aluminium bodies, Mercedes-Benz G-Wagens and various Volkswagen models. Magna Steyr has themselves been producing the hardtop RCZ for Peugeot since 2010.
The manufacturer will showcase its Peugeot RCZ drop-top idea at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show. We think one of the best things about the Peugeot sports coupe is the double-bubble roof, so we’re not entirely sure whether the struggling French automaker should necessarily commission Magna Steyr to go ahead.
Magna Steyr are calling this the RCZ Open View Concept, which uses a separate glass and fabric segments for the roof, which can be folded away in 12 seconds. It’s reminiscent of the Fiat 500 C and is better described as a targa top, considering the roof pillars remain in place.
On the other hand, with that compact targa type roof, the rigidity and smooth handling won’t be too compromised compared to the standard RCZ coupe and, when the roof is folded away, it will make the sporty RCZ look even cooler.
We’ll bring you any further pictures and information from Magna Steyr. Public reaction to its Geneva appearance could be the key to boosting the RCZ’s niche-market appeal with this targa / cabriolet.
