New Toyota Corolla To Make 2013 JIMS Debut

We know for a fact that Toyota will showcase a new Corolla at this year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS). Until such time as it arrives on South African soil, there is the small matter of the world unveiling on June 6th. Toyota have teased a few images in this regard, but we don’t play the teaser game, so instead here are a few images from Toyota’s Corolla Furia Concept, the closest thing we can see fitting the stance of a new Japanese C-segment fighter.

The Toyota teaser image simply reveals a tail-light, a small boot spoiler and a badge suggesting ‘S’ sport models will be the highlight of the new range. We believe a few hybrid models will in attendance as well. A similar rear end design can be found on the Furia Concept, which was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January this year.

Other commentators have also said the Yundong Shuangquing II Concept shown in Shanghai recently, would also share some similarities with the production version of the new Corolla. When the Furia Concept was revealed, Toyota promised the new-generation Corolla would abandon the conservative styling of the outgoing model. We wonder if Toyota Corollas don’t sell in the numbers they do simply because they are conservative?

We have little else to share with you on the new Toyota Corolla at this stage, except that the car will undoubtedly get an Auris/Verso/Rav4 inspired family face and will be more spacious inside while being lower, lighter and wider in its footprint. The current Corolla continues to be sold alongside the new-generation Auris that launched here in South Africa just a few months ago. The new Toyota Corolla will be showcased at JIMS 2013 and will most likely go on sale early 2014. Stay tuned for more details on June 6th.
