BMW 1 M Coupé By Leib Engineering

Who are Leib Engineering and what have they done with the BMW 1 M Coupé? We asked the same question. As it turns out, the German tuning outfit is owned and run by Dominik Leib, and they’ve developed two stages of tuning for the 1 M Coupé.

First of all, Leib’s team of engineers have given the ‘baby M’ a very different exterior design, with a matte grey vinyl wrap and garish blue wheels. There’s also a carbon fibre rear diffuser, boot lid spoiler and matte black trim applied to the side skirts, bonnet and roof.

Beneath the striking looks lie a number of performance enhancing add-ons. The stage-1 performance upgrade involves a new Supersprint exhaust system and an ECU remap. This simple tweak takes power from the standard 250 kW and 450 Nm to a substantial 298 kW and 560 Nm of torque. Leib’s stage-2 upgrade involves replacing the BMW N54 3.0-litre’s twin-turbos with two larger items, adding a revised induction system that Leib call a ‘suction system’, as well as an uprated cooling system for the straight-six engine. The results are rather significant, with 373 kW and 600 Nm of torque.

Leib engineers have also fitted the car with a Bilstein B16 PSS10 adjustable suspension system. The ride height can be lowered by up to 35 mm for improved handling and no doubt the 20-inch Bavaria BC5 Concave wheels have improved lateral grip too, with their 255/30 and 275/30 Yokohama Advan rubber, front and rear.
