Diesel-Powered Nissan Juke Arrives

The Nissan Juke 1.5 dCi Acenta+ expands the range to seven derivatives, which includes a CVT automatic and all-wheel drive (AWD) version of the audacious looking crossover.

In Europe the turbo-diesel Juke accounts for 40% of all Juke sales and Nissan South Africa are expecting the new engine option to be a popular choice locally too. Nancy Reddy, Product Manager for Juke at Nissan South Africa says “The recent expansion of the Juke range means that South Africans who dare to be different have even more to choose from. The addition of the new diesel adds a whole new dimension to the Juke range, where absolute frugality meets unbridled driveability in a completely unique package.”

The new Juke diesel is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 81 kW at 4 000 r/min and 260 Nm of torque from 1 500 r/min. The engine is equipped with an exhaust gas recycling system (EGR), variable geometry turbocharger, a thermostatically-controlled variable-displacement oil pump, automatic stop/start system, as well as internal friction reducing measures, such as DLC (diamond-like carbon) coatings for the tappets. These features amount to Euro 6 emissions compliance, with fuel economy of 4.2 l/100km or 109 g/km of CO2.

The Juke’s 6-speed manual gearbox has been updated to match the diesel engine’s power delivery. The 1st and 2nd gear ratios have been shortened to give the Juke improved acceleration and low speed response, while the remaining ratios have been lengthened slightly to make the most of the diesel’s extra torque and reduce engine speed.

The Juke’s driving modes remain, namely, Normal, Eco and Sport, which allow the driver to adjust the crossover’s character. Eco mode limits torque to 220 Nm (full torque is available by depressing the accelerator fully), while Sport mode sharpens up the driving experience, with greater throttle response.

Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, keyless entry, alarm/immobiliser, electrically operated mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, electric windows, a multi-function leather-bound steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, four-speaker audio system with USB and iPod integration and cruise control with speed limiter function to name a few.

In terms of safety, the Juke 1.5 dCi features ABS with EBD and BAS, VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchor points and DataDot as standard.

All models feature a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and 3-year/90 000 km service plan.
