Video: A Short Film Of The UK’s ‘Boy Racer’ Car Culture

This mini documentary takes a look at the UK’s ‘boy racer’ car culture through the eyes of the car lovers and owners themselves, as well as law enforcement. Plenty of mods, burnouts, I.C.E, speeding, girls and parting are all part of the scene.

It’s interesting to note that while the police keep an eye on proceedings, the two officers in this film do not simply paint all drivers with the same brush. Instead they recognise that there are those who want to have a good night out with mates, shred a couple of tyres in a car park and show off their cars, while others take things too far and venture out onto the streets where they have the potential to wreck not only their cars and lives, but those of many others too.

What’s our take? Well, we enjoy tasteful mods as much as anyone else, but when it comes to speed and driving skill there’s only one place to really prove you have both and that’s on the racetrack. Track days are a regular occurrence in South Africa and cater for everyone from novice to racing driver and econobox to supercar. Give your local track a call to find out the next track day, get your fellow petrolheads together and go have a laugh.
