The 2014 Subaru WRX STI has been launched at the Detroit Auto Show with a boot and a big wing. The latest WRX STI features the same 2.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 221 kW and 407 Nm of torque.
The WRX STI is available exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission, which connects drive to all wheels via the company’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, which incorporates a limited-slip centre differential that’s programmable via a Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) selector dial. A new feature for the 2014 car is Active Torque Vectoring that can apply brake pressure to the inside wheel to offer more neutral cornering.
One thousand Subaru WRX STI ‘Launch Edition’ cars will add gold coloured 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, the traditional ‘World Rally Blue’ paintwork, select enhancements to the interior trim, as well as a short-throw gear shifter.
