Renault Clio GT-Line arrives in South Africa

We’ve often said that Renault’s GT-Line is the unsung hero in the range so news of a slightly more powerful Clio GT-Line with no compromise on practicality instantly caught our attention as a sort of… ‘oh ye, about time.’  Besides a gentle nudge in power the more aggressive styling tweaks to the Clio’s already modern metalwork allows it to mirror the bigger Megane GT-Line.

The 900cc turbo engine receives an overboost function which adds another 4kW and 15Nm in second and third gear for twenty seconds. Handy for overtaking, we predict. There’s also more reference to Renault’s F1 involvement although Red Bull will be praying for significantly bigger improvements in power if it is to return to the front. Small gains haven’t been at the expense of consumption or emissions – 4.5l/100km and 105g/km is the claimed waste.

The Renault Clio GT-Line will be available in the range-exclusive blue but will be recognisable in any colour you choose because of the latest bumper, gloss black inserts and headlights with chrome detail and LED.    No changes to the handling as such but the Renault Clio GT-Line does wear a unique set of  17-inch alloys.

At R224 900 the Renault Clio GT-Line is R7000 more than the Dynamique. That’s almost R2000/kilowatt. We’ll wait until the drive before saying the Clio is another great GT-Line product.
