We expected a reduction in pricing of the Ford Fiesta following the launch of the 2015 Ford Focus in South Africa last week. In the week that lapsed between the two announcements you could buy a Ford Focus for the same outlay as a Fiesta. This obviously made no sense to anyone and Ford must have been slightly embarrassed by it.
We don’t know how but Ford has managed to slash about R25 000 from its Fiesta EcoBoost range. With the snap of a finger you can now own the world’s best 1.0-litre turbo engine (with auto box) for R199 900. That’s about R17 000 less than a Ford Focus with the same engine and manual gearbox – admittedly the Focus still looks like a good option in this scenario.
Spending R219 900 will buy a Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost with manual transmission compared to R247 000 it used to cost. Ford has added a further two models with the 1.0 EcoBoost engine equipped with the Powershift automatic transmission. The range is set to grow later this year with the addition of a 1.0 EcoBoost engine in base Ambiente trim and manual gearbox.
Hanging around and sticking out like a sore thumb is the 1.4-litre Ford Fiesta which hasn’t had the benefit of a price cut. You’d be pretty mad to buy this engine considering the little price difference and that the EcoBoost is the more powerful and efficient.
