News: Jaguar set more land speed records

Jaguar has added a number of land speed records to their name. This news follows a successful bid with the F-Type Coupe R which set an official speed of 301km/h over the 4900m runway located at Upington airport. Well if you’re going to have a runway all to yourself, and the officials from Motor Sport South Africa present, then it is reasonable to gather many Jaguar products and set class records for each.

The Jaguar XF 2.2D (140kW/450Nm) managed a speed of 211km/h, securing itself a record in the decision for production cars with turbo or supercharged diesel engines between 2.0- and 2.5-litres in capacity. Joining the action was Jaguar’s XJ 3.0-litre V6 (202kW/600Nm) with a speed of 235km/h – a class record for production vehicles with turbo or supercharged diesel engines between 2.5- and 3.0-litres. Breaking the record for production vehicles with turbo or supercharged petrol engines between 2.5- and 3.0-litres was the Jaguar F-Type S convertible. With 280kW/460Nm it set a speed record of 262km/h (roof up) and then achieved 254km/h with the roof down.

“We are proud that we’ve been able to put the F-TYPE R’s stablemates on the board, to write records in their respective classes – and fly the Jaguar flag with even more pride,” said Mallett. “After all, racing is in Jaguar’s blood, and we cannot think of a better way to prove that statement.”
