More power will be channelled into the Mercedes CLA and GLA models to coincide with the already steroid-enhanced A-Class A 45 AMG. The A45 AMG recently received a 15kW dose to its already potent 2.0-litre turbo charged engine, pushing it from 265kW to 280kW. The increase in output has been largely in response to Audi’s latest RS3 which threatened to dethrone Mercedes on the title of ‘highest specific output for a 4-cylinder turbo.’
And unlike so many instances where added power rarely leads to improved performance, in the Mercedes A45 AMG the acceleration time has dropped by four tenths, so that it is now capable of reaching 100km/h in 4.2 seconds. The GLA 45 AMG due to its heavier mass requires a bit more road, flying past 100km/h at a slightly slower 4.4 seconds.
Revisions to each of these models don’t just lie under the hood. Each model gets a faster-shifting 7-speed automatic and a more aggressive mechanical locking differential.
