The Land Rover Defender Heritage Edition and Defender Adventure Edition will shortly be sold in South Africa as part of a rarefied range that will proudly pay homage to the Defender’s lineage. With only 215 models being allocated to South Africa, Landy owners will be guaranteed something truly unique – perhaps even a collector’s item in the making…
So what’s different between these two models? If you’re after something with nostalgic flavour, naturally the Heritage model with the Grasmere paint and white roof, classic grille and HUE 166 graphics – a reference to the first registered plate – is the one to go for. Other changes include silver bumpers, body coloured steel wheels, aluminium finish (to clock, door handles and airvents), padded cubbyhole, perforated leather and Heritage logos adorning the rubber mats and mudflaps.
The Adventure Edition ups the off-road ante with Goodyear MT/R tyres, under body protection, unique decals and additional leather in the cabin. That last concession to comfort seems untypical of Land Rover. Available in several new metallic hues, this edition comes with contrasting black panels for roof, rear door, grille, bonnet and wheel arches. We recommend the Phoenix orange shown in these press images.
Besides the above, there are new alloy wheels – ironically the least favoured aesthetic for true off-road enthusiasts – and new 7-inch LED headlights. Inside Windsor Leather is available in four different colours with Bbony headlining and carpeted mats which can’t be too easy to clean.
Body styles have been allocated as such: 130 Heritage models in 110 guise and 50 Heritage models in the short wheelbase 90. In Adventure Edition, 20 long wheelbase 110 models and 15 short wheelbase 90 variants.
Orders can now be placed with the first units delivered in September.
Until then the Land Rover Festival taking place on the 22/23 of August in Vereeniging South Africa comprises an outdoor and lifestyle expo, 4×4 track and camping facilities. There will also be a chance to meet and listen to Kingsley Holgate regale fascinating tales from his time exploring Africa.
