News: Airbag failure cause of Ferrari recall

Takata is responsible for Ferrari’s airbag fault

Although every manufacturer has to deal with model recalls on an almost monthly basis, news that Ferrari is recalling all models from 2015 onwards naturally carries a greater gravitas and there is no more urgent call to action than when it involves safety.  High speed. Ferrari. Faulty airbags. You get the picture…  100% return policy.

Ferrari North America is recalling a total of 814 models manufactured between 19th December 2014 and April 29th 2015. Drive any of the following; 458 Italia, 458 Spider, 458 Speciale, F12, California T or La Ferrari and your car is on the list of defects.

Takata, the company responsible for the airbag fiasco, released a statement, “relevant combination of insufficient gluing of the leather on the driver’s side airbag cover and the possible rotated installation of the driver’s airbag cushion in the airbag module.” Does that also sound like poor workmanship to you? At a time when Ferrari actually reduced model supply to boost its exclusivity.

Ferrari owners in North America will be contacted about the fault during July 2015 but we’d suggest any owners of the models listed above contact their dealerships to ensure they are not affected.
