Revised 2010 Lexus IS F Now Even Quicker

Posted on 30 September 2009 by Scott

The biggest change to the 2010 Lexus IS F, is the addition of a new, compact mechanical Torsen LSD (Limited Slip Differential) that supersedes the previous Brake LSD function unit.

The change has seen the IS F gain a two second improvement in lap times around Japan’s Fuji Speedway and joins other convenience and design feature upgrades in face-lifting the model. The Torsen LSD redistributes the torque that is lost when a wheel loses traction during cornering, without limiting engine output. New differential oil has also seen the unit perform more smoothly as well as making it quieter.

IS F upgrades also include a revised satellite navigation unit with improved route guidance, functionality and map view. The 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio system has been upgraded too and now features a new USB input for iPods along with new software to allow selection of tracks via the vehicle’s touch screen navigation unit.

Interior revisions see the inclusion of folding rear head restraints, F logo on the ultra-thin card key, and a new steering wheel and centre cluster design. The new steering wheel has added colour trim in the lower section of the rim and new “overcast” stitching pattern to provide a neater finish to the leather wrapped steering wheel. The centre cluster has improved audio switches, as well as a new facia around the navigation system and air conditioning unit.

In addition, Lexus has redesigned the moonroof controls with seesaw-type switches in lieu of a dial-type switch, for greater ease of use.

Technocraft’s Carbon Fibre Lamborghini Gallardo

Posted on 11 September 2009 by Scott

Password JDM are a company who specialise in carbon and kevlar composite parts for Honda’s and Nissan’s, but they’re not only limited to that. Utilising their same experiences and technologies, they established Tecnocraft, a division of Password JDM responsible for the development and manufacture of composite parts that cater to high-end cars such as Lamborghini’s.

Their current demo car is a Lamborghini Gallardo that has been entirely carbonised with their extensive line of products for the car. In the engine bay, the hatch assembly, panels, and intake assembly are all replaced by dry carbon parts. The hood and inner hood bin are constructed out of dry carbon as well. The car is equipped with dry carbon front splitter, underbody panels, diffuser, and adjustable wing assembly to provide additionally stability at high speeds. As a result, the Gallardo was able to shed roughly 158 kg’s to make it even lighter than the Superleggera by 58 kg’s. That is very impressive to say the least – we’ll take one!

TechArt Styling For New Porsche Boxster & Cayman

Posted on 25 August 2009 by Scott

Tuning firm TechArt has released two new styling kits for the latest Porsche Boxster and Cayman models. The TÜV certified body kits include a new front spoiler, body coloured side sills, revised diffusers on the rear bumpers, LED daytime running lights, as well as some carbon fibre interior touches.

TechArt performed extensive wind tunnel testing to ensure optimum aerodynamics from their new body kits. Developments from the testing helped to increase the downforce at multiple points on the car, including the rear, where a rigid rear spoiler was added to both models, although the rear wing fitted to the Cayman in the photos is anything but subtle.

Additional upgrades from TechArt include either 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels and a set of stiffer, adjustable sport springs, which can be lowered by up to 30 mm thanks to TechArt’s Vario and VarioPlus threaded suspension chassis. The light intensity of the LED daytime running lights automatically adjusts to the selected driving lights setting. Moreover, the LED’s dim automatically when either of the turning signals is active, to provide better contrast for improved visibility.

Inside, buyers have a choice of two TechArt carbon interior trim levels. Additional accessories like aluminum sport pedals, a 3-spoke sport steering wheel, and/or illuminated entry sills with individual logos round out the available options for the interior.

No word on pricing from TechArt but we assume it’s a case of “If you have to ask…”.

Press Release

TECHART program for Porsche Boxster/Cayman

Leonberg. Porsche upgrader TECHART presents its new individualization options for the newest Boxster and Cayman models. Features include two Aerokits, daytime running lights, a set of sport springs, as well as carbon interior packages. “Our upgrade options enhance both the exterior and the interior, fulfilling our clients’ desire for more individual exclusivity,” explains Tobias Beyer, spokesperson for TECHART Automobil GmbH.

TÜV certified Aerokits
Both of the new Aerokits I+II from PU-RIM implement components that were tested in a wind tunnel to optimize their drag coefficients. In addition, the downforce on both axles is perceptibly higher. Essential Aerokit components are a front spoiler with a spoiler lip that match the body’s color, side sills, and a rear area that has been optimized in terms of both design and aerodynamics. The rigid rear spoiler and a rear apron with a diffuser look ensure greater stability at extreme speeds. Both models’ exhaust systems add a sporty touch to the striking rear design. Two round TECHART exhaust tailpipes in glossy or black chrome handle the rear exhaust flow. In comparison to series models, the engine sound is more sonorous and hollow, though it yields to a powerful crescendo at the highest RPMs.

New daytime running lights system in the Aerokit II
A multifunctional daytime running lights system was developed for both TECHART’s Boxster-based Roadster design and its Cayman-based TECHART GT design. The LED system units combine daytime, idle, and parking lighting in a single cohesive housing. The different modules are elegantly integrated into the upper part of the front spoiler. The light intensity automatically adjusts to the selected driving lights setting. Moreover, the daytime running lights dim automatically when either of the turning signals is active to improve their visibility.

Sporty chassis
The performance spectrum of the new individualization options is also evident in the chassis of the Boxster and Cayman. The 19- and 20-inch aluminum wheels expertly transmit the power of these 2.9 and 3.4 liter engines to the road. The TECHART Formula, Formula II, and Formula III forged wheels both ensure abundant ventilation for the wheel arches and allow the braking systems to be seen. The tight alignment of TECHART’s set of sport springs directly permit any steering angles. Thanks to TECHART’s Vario and VarioPlus threaded suspension chassis, the models can be lowered up to 30 mm during assembly and optimally adapted to suit the individual demands for each vehicle. To ensure sufficient traction for this high-performance system, TECHART recommends the Conti Pneu Sport Contact 3.

Exclusive interiors
Because TECHART runs its own saddlery, it can offer a nearly limitless variety of custom interior designs. For instance, the interior can be completely outfitted with the finest leather and decorative seams in contrasting colors. Moreover, carbon interior packages I+II further expand the options for high-quality stylizing of all ornamentation. Additional accessories like aluminum sport pedals, a 3-spoked sport steering wheel, or illuminated entry sills with individual logos round out the diverse options for the design of the interior.

VW Golf 6 GTI By MR Car Design

Posted on 16 July 2009 by Scott

www.SACarFan.co.za - MR Car Design - VW Golf 6 GTI

MR Car Design is a tuner based in Erftstadt which is a town 20 km east of Cologne in Germany. On top of being an exhaust specialist they have also tuned a number of cars for customers and are now turning their attention to the Golf 6 GTI. Equipped with KW-thread-sport suspension, the car now sits 50 mm lower in the front and 40 mm lower at the rear.

Oxigin 14 wheels with sizes 8.5×19 and 9.5×19 are fitted. They roll on 225/35-19 tyres. MR Car Design also took care of stopping power by using a Stoptech high performance brake system with 4-piston calipers and slotted brake discs, as well as a brake caliper air vent plug. A custom sport exhaust system is fitted. Optionally buyers can get a downpipe with a sport catalytic converter.

The engine has been optimised using MRCD software. Peak power goes from 155 kW to 191 kW. At the same time torque improves from 280 N.m to 380 N.m. Thanks to the GTI’s XDS traction system, the FWD car goes from zero to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and achieves a 263 km/h top speed. The tuner reckons it is quite a drivable car even on an everyday basis and it returns a good average fuel consumption figure.
