Leaked: Chery QQ Superleggera!

Posted on 01 April 2010 by Scott Hayes

It seems the Far East is abuzz with the announcement of special edition models, following yesterday’s launch of the Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Edition.

A source close to the Chinese manufacturer, Chery, slipped us this image to be used in an upcoming teaser campaign for the Chery QQ ‘Superleggera’. Details are understandably scarce at this time, but we’re told the car has been thoroughly reworked by Chery engineers to provide a thrilling drive. Our source says the Chery QQ Superleggera been designed to showcase the engineering prowess of the brand and will lead the manufacturer into a new era of exciting cars.

The ‘Superleggera’ has reportedly received substantial changes to the engine, chassis and suspension. The 1,0-litre engine will receive a Roots type supercharger, expected to boost power from the standard 50 kW to around 90 kW. The QQ Superleggera has received a revised suspension geometry, including front and rear strut braces, a revised castor angle to aid in directional stability and a set of 6-piston AP Racing calipers up front with 300 mm discs. The QQ ‘leggera is reportedly undergoing final testing at the Shanghai International Circuit before its expected to debut at the upcoming Beijing International Automotive Exhibition on 25 April.

Technocraft’s Carbon Fibre Lamborghini Gallardo

Posted on 11 September 2009 by Scott Hayes

Password JDM are a company who specialise in carbon and kevlar composite parts for Honda’s and Nissan’s, but they’re not only limited to that. Utilising their same experiences and technologies, they established Tecnocraft, a division of Password JDM responsible for the development and manufacture of composite parts that cater to high-end cars such as Lamborghini’s.

Their current demo car is a Lamborghini Gallardo that has been entirely carbonised with their extensive line of products for the car. In the engine bay, the hatch assembly, panels, and intake assembly are all replaced by dry carbon parts. The hood and inner hood bin are constructed out of dry carbon as well. The car is equipped with dry carbon front splitter, underbody panels, diffuser, and adjustable wing assembly to provide additionally stability at high speeds. As a result, the Gallardo was able to shed roughly 158 kg’s to make it even lighter than the Superleggera by 58 kg’s. That is very impressive to say the least – we’ll take one!

Exclusive Aston Martin LMV/R

Posted on 07 August 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - Aston Martin LMV/R - Lemans Vantage Racer

Scuderia, Stradale and Superleggera watch out! There is a new competitor in the super tuned sports car marketplace: the new Aston Martin LMV/R which stands for Le Mans Vantage Racer. The special edition factory hot rod is limited to only 30 units, the new LMV/R will be built by custom order at a specialty shop in Florida and then shipped back to the customer’s dealership of choice. The Le Mans inspired Vantage will be priced at US$194 000 plus the cost of the Aston Martin.

So, how is it that an Aston Martin LMV/R comes to life? Start off with a stock Vantage, then add a set of matte black 20 inch wheels, lowering springs, new front bumper with mesh screens and carbon fibre canards, a carbon fibre front splitter, bonnet, wide front fenders, side skirts, wide body panels for the rear quarters, trunk lid with visible carbon rear wing, rear bumper with integrated carbon fibre diffuser and finished off with a pair of matte black stripes. Then prepare to get greasy by changing out the standard stoppers for a big brake kit, sport exhaust complete with high flow cats and tuned headers. Afterwards they dress up the engine bay with a few carbon fibre accessories followed by an ECU upgrade. The interior is then fully recovered in Alcantara, dressed up with a carbon fibre interior kit and a numbered plaque to authenticate the LMV/R.

Press Release

Final concept images have just been released for the 2010 Aston Martin LMV/R (Le Mans Vantage Racer). Only 30 of these race cars for the street will be produced for the world. Following in the footsteps of the Ferrari Scuderia and Stradale and Lamborghini Superleggera, the Elite LMV/R is lighter than the factory Vantage due to most of the body panels being made from carbon fiber and it is more powerful as well. The Scuderia, Stradale and Superleggera were built for the purists who wanted a race car for the street, a more nimble version of the production street car that they were built from. These cars aren’t for everybody due to their harsher ride and loud exhaust systems. This is the company that the LMV/R will now be amongst but even more rare and special. The Superleggera’s US production was 172 cars, the Ferrari Stradale seen 1,288 examples built and the Scuderia production is supposed to top out at about 1,500 cars. Compare these production numbers to the 30 LMV/R’s that will be built and you can see how special and rare the LMV/R will truly be. To take a Vantage and turn it into an LMV/R, many components are used. Here is a list of what comes standard on the LMV/R;

Carbon fiber body kit consisting of: front bumper with screens, visible carbon canards, visible carbon front splitter, hood, fenders (2” wider), side skirts, side skirt panels, rear quarter panel extensions (2” wider), trunk lid with visible carbon rear wing, rear bumper with visible carbon diffuser

  • Matte black 20” wheels and tires for wide body kit
  • Lowering springs
  • Big Brake kit
  • Sport muffler with tips
  • Sport cats
  • Sport headers
  • Carbon fiber engine bay kit
  • ECU upgrade
  • Full Alcantara interior
  • Carbon fiber interior kit
  • Serial numbered plaque (only 30 cars will be produced)
  • LMV/R matte black stripes
  • Installation and full repaint

All LMV/R’s will be assembled in Florida and sent to and from the dealership that sold the car within the US. All LMV/R’s will be based on 2010 Vantage’s and will be very unique. The customer will order a brand new Vantage in any color offered by Aston Martin with any options. The Vantage is then picked up and sent to Florida where the work will be performed. The exterior can be painted the factory color or a custom color at an additional charge. The interior can be assembled in any color of the customers choosing since all the surfaces will be covered in new Alcantara.

Elite is currently seeking an Aston Martin dealer in the US to be the exclusive dealer for these 30 cars. The package price is estimated at $194,000 plus the cost of the Vantage.

EDO Competition Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

Posted on 05 February 2009 by Scott Hayes

Aftermarket tuner of all things exotic EDO Competition has now added the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera to its tuning program.

Featuring mechanical and aerodynamic tweaks, power output has been raised to 411kW (up by 22kW) at 8,250rpm courtesy of a larger air box, high flow catalytic converters and recalibration of the engine electronics. The power boost increases top speed by 6 km/h to 320 km/h. 0 – 100 km/h is reached in just 3.7s and if you’ve got 8 more seconds to spare the speedo will indicate 200km/h.

EDO Competition’s sports exhaust system allows manual adjustment of the sound volume via remote – a handy feature for waking up the neighbours.

EDO Competition have also lowered the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera by 15mm for an even more aggressive stance than standard. The lowered suspension gives the car even less body roll during hard cornering and “would take an earthquake to upset its poise”.

A set of 19 inch three-piece racing wheels have been fitted which feature an artificially-aged cast centre-section, hand-polished outer rims and 39 stainless steel screws. Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres are fitted with 245/35 ZR19 up front and 305/30 ZR19 at the rear.

For specs on the standard Gallardo Superleggera have a look at Lamboghini SA‘s website.
