Edo Competition BMW M5 Touring Dark Edition

Posted on 05 July 2011 by SACarFan

Germany-based Edo Competition is more widely known for its exotic supercar transformations but this time, the tuning house set its eyes on one of the most practical high-performance vehicles in the market, the BMW M5 Touring.

Called the M5 Dark Edition, the modified BMW wagon sports a tuned version of the 5.0-litre V10 that has been upgraded with a recalibrated ECU, high-flow air filters and catalytic converters as well as a newly developed high-performance exhaust system. As a result, output has been lifted from 373 kW and 520 Nm to 413 kW and 560 Nm, with the M5 Dark Edition completing the 0 – 100km/h sprint in 4.2 seconds (0.5 seconds faster than the stock model) and the 100km/h -200km/h acceleration in under 10 seconds. By removing the electronic speed nanny, the M5 Touring reaches a top speed of 305 km/h.

The tune continues with a new aero kit comprising of a front apron with additional lights, a rear apron that makes way for bespoke exhaust tips and a roof wing. The high-performance station wagon now rides on new 20-inch alloy wheels painted in black with a sliver rim and shod in Dunlop tyres size 255/35 R20 at the front and 285/30 R20 at the rear.

As for the interior upgrades, Edo Competition offers a variety of solutions ranging from leather and carbon trim parts to a new speedometer with white dials with a backlit logo.

Edo Competition Lamborghini Murcielago LP750

Posted on 21 February 2011 by Scott Hayes

Edo Competition’s previous Lamborghini Murcielago LP640-tune was a 522 kW monster capable of reaching a top speed of 352 km/h, which apparently made it the fastest and most powerful Murcielago in the world. Now, the German tuner has gone one step further by introducing a 551 kW variant that continues on to a maximum velocity of 365 km/h.

The other performance figures are equally impressive, as the LP750 hits 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds, 200 km/h in 9.7 seconds and 300 km/h in 24.5 seconds.

The comprehensive engine conversion that makes all this possible includes modified cylinders, new intake system with hand-made manifold and revised air ducts, high flow air filters, reprogrammed Engine Control Unit and a high performance exhaust system. The latter is made from plasma-coated stainless steel and is also available with an optional remote controlled butterfly valve system. The 6.5-litre V12 engine sends no less than 740 Nm of peak torque to all four wheels through a new single plate clutch. However, Edo Competition offers a 40 kg lighter rear-wheel drive version as well, which is said to be even more agile.

A 300+ km/h supercar is never complete without an optimised aerodynamics package and the LP750 is no exception. Edo Competition says it has managed to find a good balance between high-speed stability and looks, and is especially proud of the revised rear wing complete with adjustable lip spoiler. For good measure, the Germans also threw in a set of lightweight alloys, comprised of 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels, shod in 265/35 and 345/30 tyres respectively. Unsurprisingly, Edo Competition did not release pricing for the tuning package.

Edo Competition Enzo XX Evolution

Posted on 26 September 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - edo Competition Enzo XX Evolution

The Ferrari Enzo with its 485 kW is arguably one of the most exclusive cars in the world, both in terms of its driving dynamics and purchase price. Those looking for something considerably faster and more exclusive choose the edo Enzo XX Evolution.

A bump in displacement from 6,0 to 6,3-litres, new camshafts, new titanium valve spring retainers and connecting rods, modified cylinder heads, new high performance exhaust headers, high flow catalytic converters, mufflers and air filters: that’s the scope of edo competition’s engine modifications. The standard hydraulic tappets are replaced with newly developed solid tappets, enabling the 12 cylinder engine to rev to an incredible 9 600 rpm. Additionally the intake system of the V12 was modified, a new high performance clutch and a more powerful oil pump were installed. The power output is increased by 132 to 617 kW. Without mufflers more than 632 kW is possible. The maximum torque of 780 N.m is available at 5 800 rpm.

While the power output is increased, the Enzo’s weight is decreased by a respectable 100 kilograms. The result in numerical terms is that the edo Enzo XX Evolution accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, 200 km/h in 9.0 seconds and 300 km/h in just 19 seconds. The top speed exceeds 390 km/h.

A stainless steel muffler featuring remote-controlled butterfly valves is available on request. This setup lets the driver switch the high performance exhaust between two different sound levels.

Astonishing transmission shift times: While the production Enzo takes 110 milliseconds, the edo Enzo XX Evolution shift times were reduced to an incredible 60 milliseconds. For comparison, an F1 car shifts in 40 milliseconds.

www.SACarFan.co.za - edo Competition Enzo XX Evolution

The edo/KW race suspension from the FIA GT series was retuned for the Enzo XX Evolution, promising ultimate driving dynamics. The nose lift functionality is retained. The low-friction 3-way adjustable shock absorbers can be adjusted to the individual tastes of the driver and provide excellent steering precision and feedback. The edo installed tyre pressure monitoring system displays the pressures for each of the four wheels. Providing ample grip for the Enzo XX Evolution are 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels, with 335 mm wide tyres. The drive shafts were replaced due to the higher propulsive forces acting on them. The new units are 4 kg lighter and considerably more robust in order to cope with the power increase.

The aerodynamics package includes a complete exhaust system with tips machined from billet aluminum, now relocated to the top of the body. The tips are plasma-coated using a special process. The newly developed rear skirt featuring winglets and a rear wing profile, adjustable in 3 steps, improves the ground effect and can be tuned to the tastes of the driver. The new retractable rear wing is upgraded with a taller flap resulting in increased downforce and stability, especially at high speeds. New LED tail lights round off the rear view of the car.

All modifications are carried out exclusively at edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen. A test day with an instructor, mechanics, data logging, transport and hospitality is included in the conversion package.

www.SACarFan.co.za - Edo Competition Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

German firm Edo Competition, has taken the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and given it even more power, in addition to some other minor updates. The tuner started by modifying the 6,3-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine, which makes 336 kW and 600 N.m in standard form. A recalibrated ECU, a new high-performance exhaust system, exhaust headers, high-flow catalytic converters and new air filters, help boost these numbers to 408 kW and 680 N.m of torque.

The modifications cut the Merc C63 AMG’s zero to 100 km/h sprint time to 4.3 seconds, while the removal of the top speed governor helps the sport-sedan achieve a maximum speed of 320 km/h.

Edo Competition didn’t mess with the car’s appearance but it did add a new set of 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels, finished in black and shod in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup high-performance tires (front: 235/35 19, rear: 265/30 19). The German tuner also offers several upgrades for the C63 AMG’s interior, including special leather upholstery and unique trims.

Ferrari FXX For Sale

Posted on 05 March 2009 by Scott Hayes

This Ferrari FXX, one of only 38 Ferrari FXX test cars ever to be built and the only silver Ferrari FXX to ever be delivered, is believed to be owned by Japanese businessman Mr. Yabumoto of MAZAK Corporation.

This may be your only chance ever to own one of these vehicles as the owners are all “hand selected” by Ferrari. This one is up for sale for around R22,5 million, and if using your FXX exclusively on the race track is not your type of thing, you could probably take it to super tuners Edo Competition who recently built the first street-legal FXX.

You can find the advert for this rarity here. Here’s an onboard video from an FXX so you know what to expect when you take delivery.

Edo Competition Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Posted on 08 February 2009 by Scott Hayes

You’d expect Ferrari’s 599 GTB Fiorano, which packs 456kW, would be an almost perfect car but Edo Competition don’t agree and so came up with two modified versions of the 599.

The first one uses Ferrari’s 6.0-litre V12 engine, which now produces 478kW, the extra power coming from a recalibrated ECU, modified intake system, performance exhaust and high-flow catalytic converters.

The second version, called 630 GTB Fiorano is based on the 6.3-litre engine from the Ferrari FXX and boasts an impressive 551kW.

Other changes include a whole new suspension developed on the race track, new high-flow exhaust system with electronic butterfly valve control, plus a you get a remote control for adjusting the sound intensity.

The car is lowered by 20mm in the front and 40mm at the back and receives 20-inch wheels, available in custom colors.

EDO Competition Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

Posted on 05 February 2009 by Scott Hayes

Aftermarket tuner of all things exotic EDO Competition has now added the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera to its tuning program.

Featuring mechanical and aerodynamic tweaks, power output has been raised to 411kW (up by 22kW) at 8,250rpm courtesy of a larger air box, high flow catalytic converters and recalibration of the engine electronics. The power boost increases top speed by 6 km/h to 320 km/h. 0 – 100 km/h is reached in just 3.7s and if you’ve got 8 more seconds to spare the speedo will indicate 200km/h.

EDO Competition’s sports exhaust system allows manual adjustment of the sound volume via remote – a handy feature for waking up the neighbours.

EDO Competition have also lowered the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera by 15mm for an even more aggressive stance than standard. The lowered suspension gives the car even less body roll during hard cornering and “would take an earthquake to upset its poise”.

A set of 19 inch three-piece racing wheels have been fitted which feature an artificially-aged cast centre-section, hand-polished outer rims and 39 stainless steel screws. Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres are fitted with 245/35 ZR19 up front and 305/30 ZR19 at the rear.

For specs on the standard Gallardo Superleggera have a look at Lamboghini SA‘s website.
