New Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Confirmed

Posted on 08 February 2010 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera

The rumours have been put to bed by Lamborghini officials, who confirmed the release of the new Superleggera during a presentation in London last week. Although the ’570-4′ number designation has not yet been confirmed, it is safe to assume it the new car will carry the number combination inline with its performance figures.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera LP570-4 will share the same gearbox options as the LP560-4. As the name suggests, there will be a modest 7 kW (10 bhp) power increase, pushing total power output up to 419 kW. In keeping with the Superleggera tradition, 70 kilograms will be shed to bring the overall weight down to 1 430 kg’s. The latest Superleggera is expected to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and will no doubt benefit from a slightly higher top speed than its ‘standard’ LP560-4 sibling.

The car will be offered in six colours; Orange, Grey, Lime Green, Yellow, Black and White, with exclusive green, red and white ‘Superleggera’ decals along the side skirt.

There will also be the opportunity for owners to match the leather stitching of the interior to the colour of the exterior in green, orange, and yellow Superleggera’s. White, grey and black Superleggera’s will have the same option but with grey stitching instead.

The Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera will have its official release at this years Geneva Motor Show, starting on 2 March.

Thanks to the amazing work of automotive illustrator, Jon Sibal, we can bring you digital renderings of what the new supercar is expected to look like.

Street Legal Lamborghini LP560-4 Super Trofeo

Posted on 08 January 2010 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - Reiter Engineering Super Trofeo Strada

Translated from Italian, Strada means ‘road’ which gives us some indication of what Reiter have designed the Super Trofeo Strada to be. We’ve already seen a number of road-going racers from the German racing/tuning company including this LP640 based ‘Strada’ based on the Murciélago R-GT and the GT3 ‘Strada’ based on the Gallardo. This new model focuses on replicating the experience owners get from the factory built Super Trofeo race car.

As the Super Trofeo is built on an LP560-4 chassis, this was where Reiter Engineering started to look for the ‘Strada’. Reiter have replicated the Super Trofeo’s carbon fibre bodywork including the rear bumper and diffuser layout, side skirts, spoiler, engine cover, front bumper and splitter. All body parts are produced in lightweight carbon fibre, presumably featuring the subtle modifications required to make the car road-legal.

Suspension modifications are made up of a damper set, front anti-roll bars and race wishbones. The necessary adjustments have all been made by Reiter’s race engineers and Dutch ex-Lamborghini works driver Peter Kox.

The interior naturally retains all the comforts of the standard car although Reiter Engineering do offer a set comfortable race-style seats. These can be covered in Alcantara or Leather as you can see from the pictures.

To complete the look, Reiter offer the option of an FIA sanctioned fire extinguisher as well as a roll-cage suitable for racing and, again, sanctioned by the FIA. The roll-cage can be covered in Alcantara for extra comfort.

Edo Competition’s Lamborghini Gallardo LP600/4

Posted on 12 December 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - Edo Competition Lamborghini Gallardo LP600/4

Edo Competition have launched the Lamborghini Gallardo LP600/4 program, which adds even more power under the hood of the Italian supercar.

The Edo Lamborghini Gallardo LP600/4 outputs, as the name says, 600 hp or 411 kW at 7 970 rpm and 572 N.m of torque at 6 845 rpm. The extra juice of the Edo Lamborghini Gallardo LP600/4 translates into a top speed of 340 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.5 seconds. The 200 km/h mark comes in 10.1 seconds.

To put all those horses on the road, the LP600/4 comes with a new sport suspension with adjustable compression and rebound damping and 19 inch rims. The car is also fitted with a stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with butterfly valves.

Pricing of Edo’s LP600/4 has not been disclosed yet.

Exclusive ENCO Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4

Posted on 27 November 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - ENCO Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

ENCO GmbH has introduced a new tuning package for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, giving it more power and a somewhat more aggressive look than standard.

Finished in what is fast becoming a clichéd colour among special edition vehicles, the matte-black Enco Gallardo boasts a 100% carbon fibre GT3 front bumper – similar to that of the Super Trofeo racing cars – front splitter, rear spoiler, GT3 design side skirts, carbon fibre boot cover and carbon fibre finishes on the rear diffuser, mirrors, lid vents and interior.

The engine has received attention too and the 5,2-litre V10 now produces a total of 456 kW and a maximum torque of 575 N.m. No performance figures have been released at this point, but there’s no doubt it’ll be impressive. The combined upgrade package costs about EUR21 950.

Police Supercar: Lamborghini LP560-4 For Italy

Posted on 19 November 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia

In dire situations that require the speediest of responses, the Abu Dhabi police, with their new Nissan GT-R, are not the only boys in blue with a supercar in their arsenal. Italian State Police are equipped with perhaps the greatest tool of all: a 2009 Lamborghini LP560-4 ‘Polizia’ model donated by Lamoborghini and tricked out with all manner of emergency medical equipment and high speed survelliance devices.

Why send an ambulance to a scene where timing is absolutely crucial when you can send a 324 km/h all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Gallardo? The Gallardo Polizia is the third Lamborghini Gallardo to be donated by the iconic Italian sports car maker, and all three are in active use.

The mid-engined Gallardo Polizia touts a refrigerated cabinet in the hood section, allowing transport of donor organs in situations where even a few seconds can mean life or death. A defibrillator on-board means the select few police officers cleared to drive the Gallardo can do real work to save lives.

But medical work is not all the 2009 Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia is good for. A front-facing video camera, live linked to the station, ensures that no one in Cosa Nostra, save perhaps a select few Murciealago LP640-4 and Ferrari Enzo drivers, will be escaping the state police’s most elite driving unit any time soon.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP620-4

Posted on 02 November 2009 by Scott Hayes

Here’s another variation on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4. This one, called the YarroW, is from German tuner Wheelsandmore.

www.SACarFan.co.za - WheelsAndMore Gallardo LP620-4

First up, power on this Gallardo is upped to 462 kW and 785 N.m of torque. Wheelsandmore achieves this increase by means of ECU tinkering, a carbon airbox and a stainless-steel exhaust system with valve control.

The YarroW also comes with a beefed-up brake system to match those extra horses. 8-piston calipers are fitted at the front and 6-piston ones for the rear wheels, with 380 mm and 360 mm discs at front and back, respectively.

20-inch wheels are also part of the tuning kit, wrapped in 235/30/20 Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres at the front and 305/25/20 at the back.. The 3-piece forged rims are lightweight and come in various colour and surface configurations.

The suspension gets a special coilover setup, which can raise the ride height by hydraulic lift to 45 mm, to avoid scraping the nose when navigating your driveway. Carbon parts added to the exterior include a rear diffuser, frontflap and side mirrors. Carbon finish is also part of the interior redecorating.

And what is the price for all this bolt-on performance and styling you may ask? The ECU tweaking will set you back EUR12 500, the powerful brake kit costs EUR13 998, coilover suspension EUR8 999, and those 20-inch wheels go for EUR11 400.

433kW IMSA GTV Gallardo LP560-4

Posted on 29 October 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - IMSA GTV Gallardo LP560-4

Germany-based tuners IMSA GmbH have released their package of upgrades for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4. The IMSA GTV kit was created from scratch, and comes with several carbon-fibre body panels.

A height-adjustable sports chassis was also used, with the modifications finished off by the polished stainless steel exhaust pipes. The new exhaust led to a 5% increase in power to 433 KW and an increase of 4% in torque, up to 560 N.m.

Included in the modifications are front and rear aprons, front and rear fender flares, side skirts, and a new rear wing. The company decided to use the same central-locking wheels found on vehicles in the IMSA Challenge, which are lightweight 20-inch alloys, fitted with 245/30 ZR20 tyres up front and 325/25 ZR20 at the rear.

Carbon fibre bucket seats were also added into the package, as well as other composite interior parts. Leather and Alcantara rounds out the order.

Private Launch For Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 In Paris

Posted on 15 July 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni

Two weeks ago Lamborghini announced their rear-wheel driven Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni. If you missed it, here’s a quick refresher for you:

The Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni ditches the Gallardo’s four-wheel drive system for a rear-drive setup, while power comes from a slightly detuned 5,2-litre V10 engine producing 550 HP or 404 kW. The company’s engineers performed changes on the supercar’s springs, dampers, stabilisers and the tyres, as well as adjusting the aerodynamics to account for the change in the power flow. The LP 550-2 is 30 kg’s lighter than its all-wheel drive equivalent, the 414 kW Gallardo LP560-4. Weighing in at 1 380 kg, the LP 550-2 launches from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, or 0.2 seconds slower than the LP 560-4, while it achieves a top speed of 320 km/h (LP 560-4 reaches 325 km/h).

The Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni will be produced in a limited series of 250 units with suggested retail prices without taxes set at €162 000 for Europe, £137 900 for the UK and $219 800 for the US.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni

Posted on 01 July 2009 by Scott Hayes

www.SACarFan.co.za - Lamborghini LP550-2

Named after Lamborghini’s best known test driver, Valentino Balboni who retired after 40 years with the company, the Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni ditches the Gallardo’s four-wheel drive system for a rear-drive setup, while power comes from a slightly detuned 5,2-litre V10 engine producing 550 HP or 404 kW.

www.SACarFan.co.za - Lamborghini LP550-2Lamborghini said the conversion from all-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive only was not simply a question of moving the transmission to the rear axle, as the vehicle had to be thoroughly adjusted and tuned. The company’s engineers performed changes on the supercar’s springs, dampers, stabilisers and the tyres, as well as adjusting the aerodynamics to account for the change in the power flow.

Other changes concern the redevelopment of the rear axle differential, with a 45 percent limited slip, the recalibration of the e-gear transmission and a series of adjustments to the ESP system, which now permits greater drift angles.

www.SACarFan.co.za - Lamborghini LP550-2Currently the only Lamborghini to deliver its power to the road via its rear wheels alone, is 30 kg’s lighter than its all-wheel drive equivalent, the 414 kW Gallardo LP560-4. Weighing in at 1 380 kg, the LP 550-2 launches from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, or 0.2 seconds slower than the LP 560-4, while it achieves a top speed of 320 km/h (LP 560-4 reaches 325 km/h).

On the outside, the Balboni Gallardo features a strip in white and gold, running from the front panel all the way back to the rear spoiler, a transparent engine cover and Scorpius alloys in dark grey finish. Brake callipers come in black, orange or yellow, depending on the exterior paint finish. Customers can choose from a palette of eight exterior colors.

www.SACarFan.co.za - Lamborghini LP550-2Inside, the special edition Gallardo is equipped with full leather upholstery in black, with the seats featuring a white color strip. The centre console is completely upholstered in a contrasting Polar white leather, while a badge below the left side window bears the signature of Valentino Balboni and the production number of the car.

The Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni will be produced in a limited series of 250 units with suggested retail prices without taxes set at €162 000 for Europe, £137 900 for the UK and $219 800 for the US.
