Ford Figo gets Cross!
With lock-down restrictions easing and markets finally opening up. Is now the time to buy a new car? Well, Ford and many others seem to think so. The budget market is set to boom during the upcoming recession and no segment more so than the compact crossover.
Ever notice how most new cars look like minivans? It’s no coincidence. The buying market loves the compact SUV. With the success off it’s Figo, Ford has just launched the new Figo Freestyle.
Starting at R202 100, both Freestyle models comes fitted with a spritely 3 cylinder, 1.5 litre 91kW, 150Nm engine and the compact crossover is available in 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
Riding 16mm higher than the standard Figo, the new crossover might not be able to go off-road, but in the urban setting will certainly give SUV crazy South African buyers a sense of safety, security and ability in the concrete jungle.
Figo comes fitted with 15″ wheels, side skirts and roof racks. Unlike other compact cars, the roof racks fitted to to Freestyle are functional and can accommodate fittings for bicycles, canoes and the like.
Figo Freestyle is available in six colour choices, including the new ‘Canyon Ridge’ that is unique to this model, along with Diamond white – both of which are solid paint finishes. Metallic paint options comprise Smoke Grey, Moondust Silver, Ruby Red and White Gold.
The interior
A soft-touch gear shift knob complements the Titanium model’s sporty steering wheel with remote audio controls, while practical touches on both derivatives include door scuff plates and durable all-weather floor mats.
Reverse parking sensors come as standard, and the Trend is equipped with Ford’s clever Device Dock which includes Bluetooth, USB and Aux connectivity and a handy receptacle to hold a smartphone.
The Titanium series adds a reverse camera linked to the floating 6.5-inch colour display for the SYNC®3 system, which incorporates Bluetooth and voice activation. Owners can use their smartphone’s navigation functions and a variety of other apps in conjunction with SYNC®3 when seamlessly paired to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Other features unique to the Titanium derivative include keyless push-start button, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlamp activation and rain-sensing windscreen wipers.
Ford Figo Freestyle is sure to be as much of hit as the popular Figo, now with Crossover appeal, it now blends affordability with even more practicality.
