Dagger GT Aims To Steal Bugatti’s World Record Title
Posted on 07 July 2010 by Scott Hayes
The Dagger GT project was recently unveiled with promises of 1 470 kW and a top speed of 480 km/h (300 mph). The specifications put the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport to shame, which recently claimed the title of the world’s fastest production car. However, the Dagger GT is yet to go into development and so the boasting may be a little premature at this point.
Originating from the USA, only five Dagger GT’s are scheduled to be made by 2011. The car will be produced according to three specification levels; 3 race oriented models, along the lines of the Zonda R; a more comfort-oriented sport model and a soft-riding, luxurious GT-X model. All will be street-legal and compliant to regulations in all 49 US states.
Costs will start around US$450 000, increasing in relation to specification levels. All cars will be hand-crafted and the production company, TranStar Racing, say they have only two cars left to sell before getting the project underway. If successful, order books may open again for a further production run of ten cars in 2012.
The enormous power required to reach the targeted top speed will be produced by an aluminum, twin-turbo, 572 multi-fuel racing engine – capable of running on any combination of petrol/methanol/hydrogen/ethanol – built by Nelson Racing Engines. A custom TranStar/Mendeola six-speed transaxle geared to 493 km/h is also part of the package and expect the car to feature liberal use of lightweight carbon fibre. The chassis will be designed using high-strength 4130 Chromoly Steel. TranStar expect the car to be able to complete the quarter mile (400 meters) in 6.7 seconds and sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 1.5 seconds.
