Range Rover Evoque 5-Door Revealed

Posted on 16 November 2010 by Scott

Land Rover has released the first pictures and details of the more practical five-door Range Rover Evoque, which is set to make its debut at the Los Angeles motor show later in November.

Boasting two extra doors and a higher roofline, the five-door Evoque aims to offer the same wedgy looks and dynamic image as its coupe brother, but with an added dose of usability thrown in.

Length and width remain the same as the three-door car, but the windscreen is now 60 mm longer. This has enabled the rear roofline to gain 30 mm in height, which Land Rover claims has freed up space for back seat occupants. Furthermore, a 50 mm increase in shoulder room probably owes something to the more upright sides.

Engines are shared with the coupe, which means customers can choose between a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel – available with either 138 kW or 109 kW – and a 174 kW turbocharged petrol four. No official emissions or economy figures are available yet, but Land Rover quotes ‘sub-135g/km’ for the five-door model (compared to sub-130g/km for the coupe). The Evoque comes with front-wheel drive as standard, with four-wheel drive available as an optional extra.

Land Rover says that despite the extra height, the five-door Evoque has been endowed with a sporting and agile drive to match that of its sibling. Magnetic dampers will be available with the optional Adaptive Dynamics package, and the company’s famed Terrain Response system comes as standard.

A plethora of technology will be offered inside the Evoque, including a dual-view central display screen, which allows driver and passenger to simultaneously see different information, while Bluetooth and iPod connectivity will also feature.

Buyers will be able to choose between three different ‘design themes’ for the Evoque – the basic ‘Pure’ marks the starting point of the range, while the top of the range is covered by the luxury ‘Prestige’ and more sporting ‘Dynamic’ options.
