Hold on to your seats, because Lamborghini has officially given the go-ahead for the production of the Sesto Elemento supercar. The word comes straight from the mouth of Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann, confirming what has been rumored for a few months now.
Set to be launched in early 2013, the track-only model will feature a naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine with 425 kW and 540 Nm of torque. It will be connected to an e-gear transmission, which sends power to an all-wheel drive system. This will enable the 999 kg supercar to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed well in excess of 320 km/h.
According to Lamborghini President Stephan Winkelmann, “The excellent feedback and the numerous requests we’ve had from our customers have really convinced us to embark on the challenge of producing a vehicle with unique characteristics. We are proud that what a year ago was just a ‘technology demonstrator’ of future super sports cars, even though in working order, will become a small series reality.”
Anyone interested in parking one of the 20 units Lamborghini is going to produce, will have to fork out around US$3 million for the limited edition supercar.
