Ford has opened the order books in Europe for the Focus powered by their new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that was announced together with the EcoSport compact-CUV in New Delhi last month.
The three-cylinder turbocharged engine is available with either 73 kW or 90 kW and according to Ford, is their most fuel efficient petrol engine ever. The 73 kW version delivers a fuel economy of 4.8 L/100km and CO2 emissions of 109 g/km, while the 90 kW unit requires 5.0 L/100km with CO2 of 114g/km.
“Developing an engine this small and fuel efficient that still delivers good power and driving fun in a Focus-sized car would have seemed impossible just a few years ago,” said Ford of Europe Chairman and CEO Stephen Odell.
The 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, which uses both turbocharging and direct fuel injection technologies, will also be offered this year in the European-market C-MAX minivan, the all-new B-MAX that will debut in production trim at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, as well other models.
