The Italdesign Giugiaro Brivido has been uncovered at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.Designed to be an ultra-luxury GT sports car with a focus on passenger comfort, the Brivido concept is a functional hybrid four-seat prototype developed with Volkswagen Group underpinnings.
The Brivido showcases a low-slung, coupe bodyshell made of carbon fibre and aluminium, as well as a pair of enormous gullwing doors. The Brivido concept has enough space inside its sumptuously-appointed cabin for four people. Interior technology comes courtesy of the Volkswagen Group Electronics Research Lab (ERL) in collaboration with Italdesign Giugiaro to develop the interactive electronics and displays, which includes an iPad integrated on the passenger side of the dashboard that completely stores away or, with a gesture of the hand, responds to basic interaction.
Power comes from a 3.0-litre engine producing 265 kW mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. No details were given regarding the hybrid side of the powertrain. The Brivido, which translates as “thrill”, sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and onto a top speed of 275 km/h.
Don’t expect to see VW to adopt any of the Brivido’s radical features anytime soon – for now, the hybrid sports coupe remains strictly a design study.
