The M Performance parts range was launched recently in Europe and the US, allowing owners to add a bit more ‘excitement’ the 1, 3 or 5 series, as well as the X5 and X6. The M Performance parts don’t do anything to the already-potent power plants, but add carbon fibre trinkets to the interior and exterior, bigger and more powerful brakes, lightweight forged alloy wheels, Alcantara interior trim and flat-bottomed steering wheels for that proper boy-racer finish.

BMW in the UK wanted to offer their customers even more, however, and maybe they were feeling a little miffed that the M550d is not available in right-hand drive, so they’ve announced M Performance Editions of the M3 and M5.

The M3 Performance Edition comes with a frozen exterior paint in either red, white or blue, which has not been offered in the UK market before. It also features 19-inch M alloy wheels, seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission (M-DCT), BMW Individual piano black interior trim and special M Performance badging.

The M5 version meanwhile offers the same exterior and interior colour options, along with M Sport multifunction seats, 20-inch alloy wheels in matt black and a loudspeaker system. Should you not be happy with the relatively standard looks, you can also add black or white vinyl stripes to the exterior.

Just 30 units of each special edition are reportedly available and are likely to be snapped up, although customers will need to dig deep into their pockets as the M3 M Performance costs £74 080 (£19 360 over the base model) and £95 140 (£22 075 over the base model) for the M5 M Performance.
