Amongst a growing list of new production models and concept cars heading for the Paris Motor Show, the Peugeot 2008 Concept is the French manufacturer’s second concept announcement this week. It’s just as well too, because Peugeot need all positive attention they can get when it comes to ensuring a positive future, having suffered large financial losses in 2012 and recently been struck from the CAC 40 index.
The fluorescent matt yellow Peugeot 2008 concept features the brand’s latest styling trends, such as the smaller ‘floating’ grille and sleeker, more defined, profile lines. Peugoet say the 2008 Concept combines “agility, compactness, versatility and a striking style for young-minded city dwellers.” The 2008 Concept measures 4.1 meters long and 1.7 meters wide, which is on par with the Nissan Juke.
The 2008 Concept is powered by a re-tuned version of the turbocharged 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, petrol engine, which debuted in the all-new Peugeot 208. The direct-injection 1.2-litre unit is said to combine 81 kW with low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The Peugeot 2008 Concept will reach production in 2013, with manufacturing expected to take place in Brazil, China and France. After the Nissan Juke, the Peugeot 2008 will have to contend with other new competitors, like the Ford EcoSport and Opel Mokka/Chevrolet Trax.
