Volkswagen Beetle 53 Edition

Volkswagen Beetle 53 Edition

It looks like Volkswagen’s marketing team is grabbing the proverbial bull by the horns with the new Beetle. In order to ensure the car’s success, the company is beginning to churn out special, customised, editions of the new Bug in various world markets, the first of which we saw last week with the Beetle Remix in Germany and now this 53 edition for Spain.

It didn’t take long though for the ultimate Beetle tribute to appear. The ‘Beetle 53′ is of course inspired by the iconic Herbie character from films like ‘The Love Bug’. The Beetle 53 Edition sports the iconic movie star car’s famous ’53? racing number, tri-colour body stripes, 17-inch alloy wheels and a ‘Beetle 53′ badge on the glove box.

As with the Remix, the 53 is powered by the standard choice of engines: a 77 kW 1.2-litre petrol; a 77 kW 1.6-litre diesel; and 103 kW 2.0-litre diesel. Surprisingly, for a car based on the character Herbie, who was a serious racing contender, the 53 Edition is not available for the foreign market’s range-topping 125 kW 2.5-litre petrol model.
