Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster Unveiled

Not to be out done by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series that we’ve brought you the first video of today, Lamborghini have announced their Aventador LP700-4 Roadster.

In a change of tact from their previous flagship roadster, the Murcielago, Lamborghini have done away with the fabric top and have given the Aventador Roadster a lightweight hard top item. The ‘Forged Composite’ technology roof, uses carbon fibre and results in a stronger structure than titanium, but weighs just 6 kg. Lamborghini say the roof can be removed by hand in just “a few seconds” and is stored in the front luggage space.

To accommodate the new roof, the Aventador Roadster has a redesigned B-pillar that also incorporates the automatic roll-over protection mechanism for the passengers and provides airflow to the engine. The engine cover has also been redesigned to include two pairs of hexagonal windows and a central ‘spinal column’, which allows for adequate cooling, water runoff and a view of the 6.5-litre V12. Along with the carbon fibre roof panels, the Roadster is fitted with new ‘Dione’ 20- and 21-inch wheels, front and rear respectively, which save 10 kg over those on the coupé.

A diminutive rear window is electrically operated and can be adjusted to vary the amount of airflow and engine noise into the cabin. A wind deflector on top of the front window frame prevents swirl inside the cabin and can be removed an stored in the luggage compartment.

The Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is powered by the same, naturally aspirated, 6.5-litre V12 engine, that does duty in the Aventador coupé. Mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and driving all four wheels, the 515 kW and 690 Nm-strong Aventador Roadster will reach 100 km/h from zero in 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 349 km/h. As with the 2013 Aventador, the Roadster benefits from engine stop/start technology and cylinder deactivation for fuel consumption of around 16 L/100km and CO2 emissions in the region of 370 g/km.
