Last month the Caterham R600 Supercharged was announced as the fastest Caterham ever. This month, the British manufacturer is following up with the potentially more managable, but no less visceral, Supersport R.
Based on the standard Caterham Supersport, the Supersport R adds a limited-slip differential, Avon CR500 tyres and a track-biased suspension with race-spec springs and dampers. There’s also a unique steering wheel, gear-shift indicator and composite race seats with four-point harnesses.
Giving the Caterham Superport its ‘R’ credentials is a 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine, which produces 134 kW and 194 Nm of torque. While this may not sound like much, these figures are 30 kW and 31 Nm more than the standard Supersport, and let’s not forget that the Supersport R weighs just 535 kg. Driving the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission, the Supersport R can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 209 km/h.
If you live in Caterham’s home market of the U.K., you can pick up a Supersport R500 in DIY kit form for £24 995, or a turn-key version for £27 995.
