The new Ford Focus ST was always going to be a veritable tuners playpen the second it landed on the road. No Ford Focus ST ever makes it through a full lifecycle without at least a little bit of work being done to it. Having driven the Focus ST at the local launch and on a recent road test, the one thing we can confirm is that it certainly doesn’t need more power. The standard 184 kW and 360 Nm of torque is more than enough to unsettle the front end. Where the Focus ST stands to gain big in the aftermarket world is in being able to better harness and deliver that power to the road.

British ECU remap specialists, Superchips, clearly don’t share our sentiments and they’ve released the first remapping program for the new Ford Focus ST. The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, EcoBoost turbocharged engine has received a new engine map for the boost level, fueling and ignition timing. The Superchips’ tweak to the Focus ST yields an impressive 37 kW more power, for a total of 221 kW. In addition, there’s new throttle mapping for even sharper response.

As for torque, the remapped engine now offers a noticeable 93 Nm  increase in the middle of the rev range, while the peak torque increases 69 Nm for a total of 419 Nm at 3 770 r/min. The Superchips Ford Focus ST ECU remap comes with a price tag £455, or R6 400.
