We’ve brought you news of the exclusive new BMW M3 DTM Championship Edition before, but the photos were from the launch event and we now have official images to show you.

We know the next, 6-cylinder, BMW M3 (or M4 as the new 4 Series concept would suggest) isn’t far off and that’s why we urge you to brace yourself for some BMW M3 V8 pornography.

As a refresher, the reason for the special edition M3 was due to BMW’s superb 2012 season in the DTM, wherein they won the constructors title and the driver’s championship with Bruno Spengler. Just 54 units make up the limited worldwide release of the M3 DTM Championship Edition, which is available exclusively in Frozen Black metallic paint. The coupe is garnished with a carbon-fibre splitter and boot spolier, various dark chrome elements, matte-black wheels, loads of M-badges and BMW racing livery.

The engine is the same as a normal M3, however, the DTM Championship Edition is fitted with BMW’s Competition package, M Drive, M DCT Drivelogic dual-clutch transmission and the M Driver’s Package. Despite this, it still comes with navigation, heated seats and Park Distance Control to keep it far from being a stripped out road rocket.

The interior has been fitted with an Alcantara steering wheel, a handbrake lever embroidered with ‘M Power’ lettering and extended black Novillo leather trim with stitching in contrasting Palladium Silver. Arguably a little less exciting is Spengler’s helmet logo on the door sills and his signature on the dashboard. We’re not convinced of those touches and neither are we sure about the price, at €99 000.

It sounds like a lot of money for a car that’s not much different from the standard M3, save for the aesthetic make-over. What is cool, however, is that each of the 54 owners will also have the chance to attend the BMW M Fascination Nordschleife training course at Nürburgring under the attention of Bruno Spengler himself.
