At BMW’s ’40 Years of M’ event held at the Nürburgring in Germany last week, the same event that showed off the M6 Gran Coupé, BMW also unveiled their new M3 DTM Champion Edition.
The BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition has been built to celebrate the manufacturer’s return to the DTM Championship, in which it took overall victory in 2012. The Champion Edition will be limited to 54 cars, as per the number of DTM races in which BMW took victory.
Styled in a nod to Bruno Spengler’s championship winning car, the M3 DTM Champion Edition features ‘Frozen Black’ paintwork, BMW Motorsport striping on the roof and boot lid, as well as ‘M’ logos on each front fender, just behind matte black wheels. A carbon fibre splitter and boot spoiler contrast against the black paint and tie in with interior trim pieces on which Spengler’s signature is embossed.
Production of the 54 cars is expected to begin in early 2013 and it remains to be seen whether BMW offers the cars in any other markets other than Europe, especially considering the DTM series remains an exclusively European affair.
