For the first time since the 1954 German Grand Prix, a Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 car, or Silver Arrow as legend would have it known, has lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Former seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher did the honours in the 2011 Mercedes-Benz W02 F1 car, but remained well within the his and car’s limits, which is understandable considering the sense of occasion and its purely demonstration value.
Also on track were drivers Nico Rosberg, Bernd Schneider, Karl Wendlinger and Bernd Mayländer, who all piloted several of the latest Mercedes-Benz AMG cars that included the A45 AMG, E63 AMG S-Model, SLS AMG Black Series and the SLS AMG GT3.
