Most car manufacturers fall into the familiar trap of equating ‘luxury’ with gadgets, leather seats and lots of buttons. The Germans are especially guilty of this, and luxury Italian manufacturer, Maserati, know it. Which is why for the new Quattroporte, Maserati have found another avenue to express their appreciation for ‘luxury.’

Luxury men’s fashion group, Ermenegildo Zegna, have signed a three-year agreement with Maserati, and the Fiat Group as a whole, to give birth to a partnership between the two brands. Both represent the very best in Italian design and manufacturing excellence and they want that showcased in a show of Italian allegiance. The first step in this direction is a limited edition of the new Maserati Quattroporte by Ermenegildo Zegna.

Maserati will be celebrating its centenary in 2014 and these 100 limited edition Zegna cars forms part of that celebration. Maserati started life as a workshop, tuning and developing vehicles from other companies, but in amongst its race car program it soon developed into a company designing, building and selling its own vehicles. The Maserati brothers adopted the symbol of the famous Trident and made it the logo synthesising the new company in a single, powerful image.

After a tumultuous history Maserati was united with the Fiat Group in 2005 and is now one of the more prestigious brands in the segment of sports cars and fast luxury saloons. It is a brand that bears witness to Italian sophistication, elegance and style around the world. What better way to showcase that than with the fashionable Zegna tie-up.

The Quattroporte Maserati flagship will be reinterpreted and customised with new colours, materials and trims, inspired by the collections of a leading fashion Group. In particular, fabrics will be produced by the historic Lanificio Zegna wool mill in Trivero (Italy). Furthermore, a whole range of new optional trims by Zegna will be available.

Maserati says they will further enhance this new tailor-made approach and customers will benefit from a unique collection of accessories by Zegna, specially designed for each Maserati. The images you see here are of the standard Quattroporte interior, but the first prototype will most likely be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.

“We already had a positive collaboration in the past with Fiat Group and, in particular, with Maserati,” commented Gildo Zegna, CEO of Ermenegildo Zegna Group. “Both companies have a centenary industrial tradition and are renowned worldwide as ambassadors of Italian excellence. A new partnership during the Centennial celebrations of Maserati, one of the car manufacturers with the most allure, tradition and sporting successes worldwide, is for us an honour and gives us great pride. I am confident that by this renewed collaboration both brands will be able to combine the tailored attention to detail with cutting-edge technology, leading to the creation of a new world icon of style and elegance.”
