The Porsche Boxster won the SAGMJ/Wesbank 2013 Car of the Year competition; rather controversially it must be said. How can a two-seater be the Car of the Year? Do all Car of the Year winners need to be practical and affordable?
Whatever your take on it, we rewarded the Boxster where necessary for its composed performance, hi-tech gearbox, and good value proposition it offers in the segment. But we didn’t want to award it the outright win. We thought a Porsche Boxster S would be more deserving of that award.
Of course, despite the winner not being the S, the new Boxster as a whole is the definitive choice for anyone seeking precision motoring in the roadster category. There are far more reasons to buy a Porsche Boxster than not to, even a second hand proposition. Better still, the Porsche Boxster you see before you has been fitted with all sorts of cosmetic goodies from German tuners Techart.
These goodies include a more distinctive front bumper, a more aggressive grille, deeper side skirts and a pseudo-diffuser rear bumper. You’d be hard pressed to pick this Boxster out as an old car, and that’s a good thing.
Forcing the most out of the flat-six boxer engine, it’s been matched to a Remus Catback Exhaust System, with large pipes and the soundtrack has been enhanced no doubt. Completing the tuning effort are OZ Ultraleggera HLT 19-inch wheels front and back. It’s a rare tuning effort on a Porsche Boxster S, but a worthy one nonetheless.
