We’ve followed the story of the Jaguar C-X75 hybrid supercar project with some interest and for some time. The C-X75 intrigued many with its ambitious turbine-powered drivetrain, which was later revised to a more traditional petrol engine and electric motor combination. Late last year, however, Jaguar announced it would not be taking the C-X75 to production and we heaved a great collective sigh.
The five C-X75 prototypes have continued to be developed, under what we imagine must be a trickle of a budget, and in an effort to salvage some value from the lessons learned. It’s for this reason that the British manufacturer was able to invite Autocar to sample the hybrid hypercar at its Gaydon test facility, before permanently parking it in a shed. Fortunately, while the world may have lost the Jaguar C-X75, it’s gained the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari.
