General Motors South Africa (GMSA) has announced that the Opel Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition will be making its South African debut this October.
Available in limited numbers, the Nürburgring Edition will not only be a rare sight on local roads, but as part of an international limited edition production run of 500 units, the Opel Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition is one of the most exclusive Opels ever built.
Opel’s ties to the Nürburgring Nordschleife date back to the 1960s and all Opel vehicles are tested at the track before entering production. OPC models receive fine tuning of chassis, performance and handling dynamics.
The OPC Nurburgring Edition is distinguished from the standard Corsa OPC with a front lip spoiler, a new rear roof-mounted spoiler, dual exhaust pipes, dark-painted 18-inch alloy wheels and Brembo disc brakes.
Interior changes include Recaro sports seats in Nappa leather, while equipment upgrades include rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control and an upgraded audio system with USB and Bluetooth compatibility.
The springs and shocks have been uprated courtesy of Bilstein, while the turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine has been tweaked to produce 154 kW at 5 850 r/min and 250 Nm of torque, with up to 280 Nm on overboost. A mechanical limited-slip differential has also been added to help transfer power to the road.
As a result of the extra ‘go fast’ kit, the Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition reaches 100 km/h from a standing start in 6.8 seconds and will reach a top speed of 230 km/h. Opel claim that despite the additional power, the Nürburgring Edition’s engine will require just 7.6 l/100km when driven with restraint.
With the Opel Corsa OPC having been on our roads for many years already, GMSA are expecting the Nürburgring Edition’s exclusivity and performance credentials to reignite interest in the halo model Corsa and indeed the entire range.
GMSA will announce pricing, availability and further details closer to the car’s launch.
